Sperm donorship is applied to treat male infertility of severe forms, prevent risks of transfer of hereditary diseases. In addition, single women can make use of sperm donor services.

Sperm Donor – Requirements

- age: from 20 to 40 years;
- no departures from normal appearance;
- physical and mental health.

Requirements to donor sperm: 

- volume of sperm : above 2 ml;
- concentration of spermatozoa in 1 ml of ejaculate: above  80 million;
- share of active sperm : above 60 %;
- share of normal sperm: above 60 %;
- cryo-tolerance (survivability of spermatozoa after cryopreservation).

To become a sperm donor, a man should pass comprehensive medical and genetic tests. He must be tested for HIV-infection, syphilis, hepatitis B and C and a number of sexually-conveyed diseases (such as gonorrhea, clamidiosis, cytomegalovirus, herpes, ureaplasmosis, mycoplasmosis, and others). Besides, a donor must be examined by a therapist and urologist, be given medical-and-genetic consultations, pass karyotypic tests, tests for mucoviscidosis and AZF-factor.

Donor sperm can be used for intrauterine insemination ((IUI) purposes, or in IVF cycles. 

The sperm donor services can be provided by the following persons:

- relatives and acquaintances of patients; 

- anonymous donors

The databases contain data on donors’ appearance, nationality, education background, profession, family status, children. All and any identification information is confidential, while a donor is not entitled to come into possession of any data on patients for who his sperm is intended. Sperm donors are expected to sign information-based consent documents specifying that their sperm and resulting embryos will be treated as property of patients.
